Sacred privilege.

Don’t laugh at me because I ask stupid questions. Don’t discourage me because I am naive and don’t know what I want. I will learn. And it’s okay if I make mistakes. Its only when I’m making mistakes that I know that I’m testing unchartered waters. Don’t take advantage of the fact that I am scared right now. Have you forgotten you were in my place not too long ago? When you didn’t know what to do with your life. When you were confused. And everything was caving in on you. Remind yourself of that feeling when you open your mouth to ridicule my dreams. Recall how vulnerable you felt and that even the slightest word of discouragement would pierce through your heart. And the tiniest words of encouragement would make you my God. I may be scared, confused and vulnerable. But I still have my self-respect and dignity. I come to you for advice and solace. But, I will not listen to all you say. I will not dance to your tune. I will not do exactly as you advise. Just because everyone is doing it, doesn’t mean I will do it. Who said everyone can’t be wrong? This life, is my right. I will craft my own drum. And I will dance to my tune. You, sir, were given a sacred privilege. And you abused it. Verily, I will remember you all my life. I will forgive you, but forget you, I will not.

Father: Hey. Don’t ever let somebody tell you… You can’t do something. Not even me. All right?
Boy: All right.
Father: You got a dream… You gotta protect it. People can’t do somethin’ themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it. If you want somethin’, go get it. Period.
